It took good old self-preservation instinct theory to keep me from going insane. I knew
a. I would go insane if I kept thinking like this.
b. If I went insane I might be hurt by myself or others.
c. It would be better to avoid thinking like this.
So, by logic, I chose to avoid using my genius. But when those people from school knocked on my door, I should have freaked out. But instead, I calmly opened the door. I asked/commanded the boy I had gotten the 'gift' from
"Take it back. Please."
There was a moment of silence as the four friends stood shocked on my doorstep. Then Sam asked "You mean, you don't want it?"
"Do I want to over think everything until I get a head ache and interpret everything wrong? NO." I answered sarcastically.
"So how do we do it?" Leave it to Sam to ask the obvious.
But this time, no one knew.
"Well..." I started after a time "It got it the moment I touched you. So maybe if I touch you again..."
Two negatives equal a positive... (unless your adding or subtracting, sometimes. Integers. Algebra. Line graph functions...) "Oh. OW!"
I fell to my knees, gripping my head. It hurt so bad, like a thousand drums in my temple. (Drums. Sound waves. History of music.)
I heard, distantly, Johns protests. "But, what if you just take something more back? Like... like.."
"Take. It. Back." I said slowly and strongly. I reached out and wrapped my arms around Johns ankle. I still don't know if I touched him because I thought it would make the power go back, or if I was trying to get revenge and take more away.
Red flash this time.
Oh, sweet ignorance!
"Yes!" Cried John. I didn't understand why he was so happy. But my brain was back to normal. And that was all I cared about. I pulled myself off of the ground. I looked them all in the eye and asked "What in the world is going on?" We had a brief 'discussion'. And by discussion I mean they all started talking at once. John whistled (that was when I could tell he was the leader of the band), and everyone stopped. He asked me if my parents were home. I said no, and they wouldn't be until noon tomorrow, (they were on a date) and my babysitter (yes, I still have to have one,) was already asleep. Sam checked his watch and proclaimed that there was still enough time to go to "Davy Jones locker!"
Abby looked surprised. She said "We're taking her to the Trench? Really?"
"Well, she obviously has a power." Reasoned Sam.
I didn't like being talked about as if I wasn't there, so I asked "What are you talking about?"
They all grinned and John said "Ever heard of a super hero?"
