I'm triying nonfiction now...

God Bless America?

'One nation, under God.' 'In God we trust.' 'God shed his grace on thee.'  How often have we heard these lines and ones like them?
Here in America, one of the many things we pride our selves on is freedom of religion. This is mentioned in the first  amendment; Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.
Okay, so basically, if you want to practice religion, go ahead. Great. But what if you don't want to practice religion? Do atheists get a say?
To this, most people say something like 'we need to keep God in our lives, or he won't bless America!" this brings up lots of questions. The main one that pops to my head is this; Would God bless America just because we use His name a lot? Or will he bless us because of the rights we protect, the wars we fight, the people we accept, and the lives we live? To say that God doesn't bless America for those reasons is to say that He cares more about meaningless words than meaningful actions.
Some other people think that they need to say those things to practice their religion. However, dose saying a phrase, more often than not one that you don't understand, really help you get closer to God? Probably not.
I'm not against religion, but I am against religious people shoving their beliefs down the throats of everyone else.

PLEASE comment on this one. I'm hoping to start a debate.
